This week marks a major milestone for Realgrey Records.  We’re thrilled to welcome Greg Norman—engineer, technician, and integral part of Electrical Audio in Chicago—into our space to help bring our beloved Neotek Elite II console back to life.

A Visit from Greg Norman of Electrical Audio

If you're not familiar, Electrical Audio is the studio founded by legendary producer (he preferred the title of engineer) Steve Albini, and Greg has been its technical backbone for years. Having someone of his caliber in the shop is more than just a service call—it’s an honor.

Our console is a late-model Neotek Elite II, a hand-built analog desk with serious pedigree. At its best, it's the heart of the studio, where all signal paths meet—tape, DAW, and headphones—and where final mixes take shape. But as anyone who’s ever worked on vintage gear knows, keeping a console like this humming takes care, patience, and a little outside help. That’s where Greg comes in.

In the lead-up to his visit, we’ve done our homework. Every module—all 40 of them—was removed, cleaned, and inspected. We reseated ribbon connectors, pulled the meter bridge, cleaned the master section, and documented every quirk and question in a shared spreadsheet. We even hand-picked the best 26 modules and reinstalled them in the first 26 positions.

We realized that we needed help jumping into the deep end of Neotek engineering. That’s why Greg’s visit is so important.

While we’re focused on getting 24 rock-solid channels online for now, the bigger picture is even more exciting. With Greg’s guidance, we hope to get all 40 modules functional again and build a hybrid workflow that lets us move fluidly between tape and digital. That means better routing, cleaner mixes, and more flexibility for the wide range of artists who come through Realgrey.

We’ll be sharing more behind-the-scenes moments as the work unfolds. But for now, we just wanted to say: Greg, welcome to Realgrey. We’re grateful to have you here.

Stay tuned.
